Welcome to St. John of Damascus!

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to view the web page of the Church of St. John of Damascus of Dedham, Massachusetts. St. John of Damascus Antiochian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (www.antiochian.org) based in Englewood, NJ, under the spiritual care of the Patriarch of Antioch located in Damascus, Syria. St. John’s was founded in 1907 when the bishop was St. (then Bishop) Raphael, Bishop of Brooklyn, in the present day Chinatown section of Boston, we are now in our third, and God willing, last church building in Dedham, a suburb of Boston. Please take a moment to read about the History of our Church.

The parish is made up of approximately of 1,000 men, women, and children. While the original members of the church were of Syrian background, the parish now includes members from many other ethnic backgrounds who have embraced the Holy Orthodox faith. In addition, our members come from almost every town and city in the greater metropolitan Boston area.

The parish has many church organizations that offer a wide variety of social and spiritual activities. At Christmas time, we run clothing, food, and toy drives. Our annual bazaar attracts hundreds of people from the surrounding towns. The various dinners sponsored by the various groups are well known.

The Church School offers a myriad of programs to educate not just the young but the old as well. An extremely vibrant group, namely the Parent Guild, assists the church school.

As mentioned above, this is the web page of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, which this parish is a member. By looking here as a start, you will be amazed at the amount and quality of information available on the Internet.
